Dogri Sanstha Jammu Organises 15-Day Skill Development Internship Translation Workshop

Jammu, July 1, 2026: Dogri Sanstha Jammu today commenced its 15-day Skill Development Internship Translation Workshop, a 60-hour intensive programme designed to develop practical translation skills among students while promoting the rich linguistic and literary heritage of Dogri. The workshop will continue from 1st July to 15th July 2026.
The workshop is being conducted under the direction of Padmashri Prof. Lalit Magotra, with Dr. Bansi Lal Sharma as the Associated Resource Person. It brings together more than 70 students from Government College for Women (GCW), Parade, MAM College, Jammu, and S.P.M.R. College of Commerce, Jammu, reflecting the growing interest among young learners in translation as an important academic and professional discipline.
In a press note, Prof. Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha Jammu, said that translation has become an essential skill in today's multilingual world. It not only facilitates communication across languages but also enables the exchange of knowledge, literature, culture, and ideas. With increasing opportunities in media, publishing, administration, education, digital platforms, and artificial intelligence, trained translators are in greater demand than ever before. The workshop aims to prepare participants for these emerging opportunities through practical and hands-on learning.
The programme covers a wide range of translation domains, including advertisements, knowledge literature, news, machine translation, literary fiction, subtitles, and official correspondence. Sessions will be conducted by distinguished academicians and experts, providing participants with practical exposure to the techniques, challenges, and ethics of professional translation.
The workshop began with an inaugural session on 1st July and will conclude with a valedictory programme on 15th July 2026. Dr. Tarsem Raina is serving as the Programme Coordinator, while Pawan Verma, Susheel Begana, and Pankaj Sharma are the Assistant Coordinators. The programme is supported by the college faculty comprising Dr. Aarti Sharma, Dr. Nazia Chowdhary, Dr. Deepika Mehra, Dr. Neeru Devi, and Dr. Anu Devi.
Through this initiative, Dogri Sanstha Jammu continues its commitment to strengthening translation studies and nurturing a new generation of skilled translators who can contribute to the preservation, promotion, and wider dissemination of Dogri and other Indian languages in an increasingly interconnected world.
