The programme entitled ‘Chamatkaar-4’ was held today in which free verse poetry of Ashok Angurana was set to music and was presented by renowned singers of J&K. The programme was organized by Dogri Sanstha and music of poems was composed by veteran musician and composer Brij Mohan. This was the fourth such programme in the
series in which free verse poetry was set to music by Brij Mohan. In the earlier programmes, poetry of Padma Sachdev, Chhatrapal, Shashi Pathania, Lalit Magotra and Ved Rahi has been presented.
Those who lent their voices to the poems include Dr. Naveen Sharma, Sonali Dogra, Vanshika Jaral and Antriksh Troch. An attractive feature of exquisitely composed tunes was mixing of the element of voice-over with the compositions. The voices for voice-over were provided by the well-known radio and stage artistes like—Pawan Verma, Promila Manhas, Rajeshwar Singh, ‘Raju’, Umesh Sahni and Amar Chauhan.
The noble experimentation, using free verse, music and voice-over was very much liked by the audience, especially the ‘Bhaakh’ style of singing in some of the compositions.
Those who provided accompaniment include Rakesh Anand on flute, Sanjay Pashi guitar Vijay Anand on dholak and Amit Anand on tabla.
Prof. Lalit Magotra, President of Dogri Sanstha, welcoming the audience said that composing music for free verse is very tough and tricky and Brij Mohan deserves all the appreciation for undertaking such unusual task. Commenting on the poetry of Angurana, he said that his poetry is very rich in content and set to appropriate music, the effect of poetry is likely to increase manifolds.
Prof. Magotra also drew the attention of the audience towards some urgent issues concerning Dogri. He condemned the apathy of the J&K Government towards the Dogri language and step-motherly treatment being given to this language in its own home State. He cited many issues including non-introduction of Dogri in newly upgraded 102 Higher Secondary schools of jammu province and non-implementation of Government’s decision to teach Dogri at primary level in the school curriculum. He urged upon the Government to take necessary actions immediately in these issues.
Angurana spoke at the conclusion of the programme and expressed his gratitude to Brij Mohan for working so hard to compose his verses and thanked the Dogri Sansha for providing the platform for presenting this programme.
The programme was conducted and anchored by Promila Manhas who is a radio artist and an accomplished poet in her own right.
Gianeshwar Sharma, Vice-President of Dogri Sanstha thanked the audience, artistes and media at the conclusion of the programme.
