The youth of Jammu are facing a significant hurdle in the latest national recruitment drive, and it isn’t just about the competition—it’s about their identity.
The Dogri Sanstha Jammu, led by Prof. Lalit Magotra, has officially raised a red flag regarding the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) recruitment notification for Assistants dated February 16, 2026. While Jammu has been included as a recruitment center, the “local language” requirements have left the people of the region in shock.
The Oversight: A Missing Identity
In the RBI notification, the specified local languages for the Jammu center include Hindi, Urdu, and Kashmiri. Noticeably absent? Dogri.
As Prof. Magotra highlighted in a recent urgent press conference, this omission is not just a minor clerical error; it is a direct blow to the linguistic reality of the region. Dogri is the principal mother tongue of Jammu and a core pillar of its cultural fabric.
Why This Matters: The Constitutional & Practical Reality
The representation sent to the Governor of the RBI outlines three critical reasons why this must be rectified immediately:
- Constitutional Recognition: Dogri is duly recognized and included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India.
- Official Status: It is one of the Official Languages of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
- Equity for Candidates: By excluding Dogri, qualified local candidates who are most proficient in their native tongue face an unfair disadvantage in the recruitment process.
“A Conspiracy Against the Youth”
During the press conference, Prof. Magotra did not mince words, describing the exclusion as a “conspiracy” to destroy the future of Dogra youth. He questioned how such a significant regional language could be overlooked at its own home center, suggesting that it prevents local talent from progressing and achieving their potential.
The Dogri Sanstha has pointed out the irony: if an interview were held in Srinagar and Kashmiri were excluded, it would be seen as an outrage. Why then, they ask, should Jammu accept the exclusion of Dogri?
The Dogri Sanstha Jammu has made two clear demands to the RBI and the government:
- Issue a Corrigendum: Immediately withdraw the current notification and issue a new one that includes Dogri as a recognized local language for the Jammu center [04:56].
- Fix Accountability: Conduct a full inquiry to identify how this “administrative oversight” happened and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
The bravery and sacrifices of the Dogra community for the nation are well-documented. It is only fair that their linguistic rights are upheld in return. The Dogri Sanstha is calling upon all sections of society to unite in this struggle to ensure that the youth of Jammu are not denied their rightful opportunities due to linguistic exclusion.
Will the RBI listen? The people of Jammu are waiting for a positive response that respects the diversity and constitutional values of our nation.
